Children's Sunday School

Sunday School is offered for children 3 years through 5th grade. Older youth are invited to worship with the congregation or participate in KidZ Worship practice or KidZ Worship when offered.

Sunday school is offered from the second Sunday in January through Easter Sunday during the Christian Education hour in between services at 10 AM. The Sunday after Easter through December 31 it is offered during the 11:00 AM worship service.

Sunday school teachers are background screened volunteers who commit to teach once per month. All parents are asked to commit to help with the Sunday School program.

Nursery is provided throughout the morning.

Chapel Kidz and Kidz Worship - NEW

Chapel KidZ meets after “Words with Young Worshipers” during the second worship service. Children from preschool through 5th grade go out to Chapel KidZ for devotional time and completion of a KidZ friendly project.

KidZ Worship meets on the third Sunday of each month after Words with Young Worshippers. All KidZ from preschool through Youth go to the Fellowship Hall where the SKC Youth Band leads all of our KidZ in music and worship. We have a KidZ oriented message, prayer and KidZ offering for the children’s mission selection.

Parents Fellowship Night – NEW

Parents or guardians are invited to attend this fellowship opportunity to communicate issues related to our youth and family ministries here at SKC. The monthly meeting is hosted in the home of a SKC family each month. Pastor Kathi and youth leaders attend to help facilitate the needs of our families at the Chapel.

Check your e-mail and the church bulletin for updates or 349-1166 for updates on meeting location, date and time.

CONFIRMATION

Confirmation Classes are offered each year for middle school students and high school students who are ready to make a public declaration of their faith in Jesus Christ and join the church. Classes are led by the pastor.

Our most recent confirmation class concluded November 23, 2008.

Middle School and High School Youth Groups

First and Third Sunday!
The middle school and high school youth gather on the first and third Sundays each month after worship. We share a meal together and then break-out, separating into middle school and high school youth groups.

Get ready for food, fun and fellowship as we get together after worship!

YOUTH IN MISSION

The SKC Youth participate in many projects to help the needs of our community and the world.

Environment:

On September 20, 2008 the SKC Youth participated in the 2008 Ocean Conservancy’s Coastal Clean-up event here in Sarasota. We joined several hundred volunteers spending three hours on Sarasota Bay collecting trash and other items to help restore our seashore.

Hunger:

Our young people help fight hunger through two annual projects:

The Souper Bowl of Caring in February occurs on Super Bowl Sunday. A collection of food is received for All Faith’s Food Bank. A special collection is taken and the funds raised is shared by Caritas and All Faith’s Food Bank.

The 30 Hour Famine – The 2009 World Vision 30-hour Famine was completed with many youth learning how to cope with hunger themselves. The event involved multiple youth groups here in Sarasota and was hosted at First Presbyterian Church in partnership with Church of the Palms and Siesta Key Chapel. Our church had 9 youth and 4 adult volunteers who participated in different aspects of the event from leading worship to working at one of the three local site projects.

Our youth raised $231 and when combined with the other youth groups the total money raised for World Hunger closes in on $700! These funds assist World Vision in their fight to eliminate hunger related diseases that takes the life of a child every three seconds worldwide.

During the lock-in style, cardboard camping, overnight fasting event, youth came to understand the problems of poverty, lack of health care and scarce resources has on the lives of children faced with death. This learning experience brought home the problems faced by homelessness and and poverty right here in Sarasota.

While we hungered for the Break-Fast on Saturday afternoon, many of us went out and collected 367 lbs of food in a door to door collection for All Faith's Food Bank.

These ministries were supported by the efforts of all the youth and volunteers during this event.

• Resurrection House Ministry
• Harvest Tabernacle – Clothes Closet
• Gifts From God – Adopt a Block
• All Faith’s Food Bank – Food Collection

After the event we all Broke-The-Fast together!
